With renewed enthusiasm and a commitment to progress, we gathered once again for the 2023 UIIN Conference, a dynamic platform where academia and industry converge to explore the evolving landscape of knowledge exchange and collaboration. This year’s conference, featuring 14 thought-provoking papers, was a testament to our collective resilience and dedication.

As we navigated the conference, it was evident that innovation knows no boundaries. From the HK Tech 300 initiative to the exploration of alternative design theories for entrepreneurial ecosystems, we uncovered insights that are shaping the future of university-industry engagement. We delved into the impact of entrepreneurship and incubators on employability, the transformation of social sciences commercialisation, and teaching entrepreneurship to address societal challenges and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Our discussions expanded to include PhD students’ perspectives on work placements and career preferences, the relevance of transfer processes and indicators, and the critical role of scenario workshops in organizational learning for the future of higher education. We also explored practical tools like the SIXLabs Playbook for knowledge valorization in SMEs and the Lund Model for Innovation Ecosystem Portfolio Tracking (LIEPT) to strengthen the governance of place-based ecosystems.

The academic and practitioner papers in these proceedings underscore the vibrant exchange of ideas and experiences that define our community. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the authors, reviewers, and participants for their contributions to this enriching dialogue.
