THE DILEMMA: ACADEMIC FREEDOM vs. GENERATING REVENUE
Fireside Chat with Melora Sundt
“How does an institution prioritize generating enough revenue to sustain and thrive, without selling its soul to the whims of a fickle market” – Melora Sundt
We have invited Melora Sundt the Chief Academic Officer for Noodle Partners, to further explore this question.
Sundt argues that academic freedom is every higher education institution’s identity – it is the soul and what essentially distinguishes them from other types of organisations. However, although the maintenance of this academic freedom is of utmost importance, it is becoming increasingly expensive to maintain. With several opportunities that are presented and decision-making processes that value expedience – how does one institution maintain its academic freedom and value?
Join this fireside chat to learn more about this challenge and gain insights to understand what institutions need to do in order to successfully adapt and neutralise the threat of commodification to emerge as a community with a stronger sense of identity.
Explore the dilemma of universities of the future: how will one maintain academic freedom and identity yet adapt to a rapidly changing planet?
Leaders of higher education institutions, higher education learning designers, deans and academics, knowledge transfer professionals, educational program leads.
