Jaci holds a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Natal, Durban, South Africa and an MBA (cum laude) from the University of Pretoria. Jaci started her career in the private sector before moving onto a contract research organisation and then to the wholly-owned commercialisation company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. In 2007, she established the Innovation Office at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth where she is currently the Director. Jaci is the chair of the Regional Innovation Forum and of the Board of Propella, the NMMU’s innovation incubator.

Paul Benneworth is a Senior Research Associate at the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies (CHEPS), University of Twente, the Netherlands. Paul’s research focuses on the way that university knowledge creates socio-economic impacts. Paul is author of more than seventy journal articles and book chapters, as well as the OECD 2007 report Higher Education and Regions: globally competitive, regionally engaged. Omar Castillo is a graduate in Industrial Engineering from the University of Costa Rica and currently co-founder and director of the social-technological start-up Unique Personal Experiences (UPE), a web platform to book stays and local activities in rural communities. Previously, Omar had an active participation in the NGO “Un Techo para mi Pais” in Costa Rica and Chile. Moreover, he is a consultant in traceability and in 2011 he also founded the company Niwid, which implement traceability systems for SME’s. He usually offers workshops, conferences and mentoring for entrepreneurs and start-ups in Latin America.

Born in Barcelona in 1970, he got a degree in Industrial Engineering and a Master in New Information Technologies by the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, and also a degree in Strategic Business&People Development by the ESADE University. Once he finished his Industrial Engineering studies in 1995, he joined Accenture as a Consultant in Design and Implementing Reengineering Processes and Automation. In 1999 he moved to Agbar Group, where he worked with Bristol Water, a company within the Group in the UK, where he was in charge of the Organisation and Development Management. Now, he is the Managing Director of AQUALOGY Solutions and Technologies.

Professor Bob Cryan took up the post as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Huddersfield in January 2007, a University that now has over 22,000 students from over 120 countries. Bob holds two first class honours degrees (Engineering, Mathematics), an MBA and two doctorates (PhD, DSc) and he is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering Technology and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Bob is a Deputy Lieutenant for West Yorkshire and in 2013 he was awarded The Guardian Inspiring Leader Award. Bob is proud to be a graduate of the University and to have had first-hand experience of the life-changing potential and the tremendous support that Huddersfield offers its students. Bob is delighted that the hard work of the University’s staff and students is being recognised through many awards including the Times Higher University of the Year 2013/14, the Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2013 and the Times Higher Entrepreneurial University of the Year 2012/13. Bob was also named the Guardian Inspiring Leader of the Year in 2013.

Philipp Dautel is responsible for the delivery of the Tonsley Innovation Precinct vision, including facilitating collaboration between research institutions and industry to promote innovation and commercialisation opportunities. He also leads business development and investment attraction in the precinct through engaging with industry and communities (locally, nationally and internationally) and enhancing commercial opportunities.

Before joining the Tonsley team, Philipp was facilitating a Federal Government Programme in South Australia where he helped companies engage with research organisations to drive innovation and business growth for SMEs. He also worked at UniSA’s technology commercialisation company, UniSA Ventures, which included assessing and developing commercial opportunities.

Todd Davey was the Project Manager for the largest European study into University-Business Collaboration (UBC) completed for the European Commission conducted in 2011 and is a passionate speaker on the topic of UBC. He is Manager International Projects at the Science-to-Business Marketing Research Centre, the author of the University-Business Cooperation Information Portal (www.ub-cooperation.eu), Non-Executive Director at UIIN and Director and the start-up apprimo, an innovation consulting firm.

Alina Dreier

Alina Dreier is affiliated with the Science-to-Business Marketing Research Centre in Münster, where she currently is part of the project team for the study "State of University-Business Cooperation in Europe" commissioned by the European Commission. As a graduate from the University of Applied Sciences Dortmund in International Business, she is now pursuing her postgraduate degree in International Marketing and Sales from the University of Applied Sciences Münster.

Elizabeth’s career has spanned three decades of business, research and art practice. She has a deep and abiding interest in the process of innovation, creativity and discovery. She is a strong leader and a passionate visionary. 

Elizabeth is currently guiding CSIRO’s strategic direction, understanding and defining CSIRO’s national and global market roadmaps, and leading CSIRO’s Innovation and Entrepreneurial Programme.

Previously, she founded and headed up iAccelerate, raising $16.5M from the state government to build iAccelerate Centre, holding 280 entrepreneurs. She also initiated several support programmes for female entrepreneurs.
Elizabeth has a multidisciplinary education: a BA in Computer Science and Creative Writing, a Bachelor of Fine Art, an Executive MBA, and a PhD in Film and Digital Art.

Natascha Eckert

Natascha is active in various leading roles within Corporate Research for over 10 years. Currently she heads Siemens University Relations and is responsible for the global strategic partner programs with universities and research institutes. After two years with OSRAM Corporate Technology, she re-joined Siemens in February 2015 where she had already overseen Siemens partner management with universities and research institutes for over four years. Natascha has a long-year experience in Siemens’ international technology and innovation management and was responsible for Corporate Technology’s expansion to China, India and Russia. During two years, she worked with Prof. Requardt and built up the CTO function within Siemens.

A/Prof Drew Evans is a research leader in advanced manufacturing within the Future Industries Institute.  He has over a decade’s worth of experience working at the interface between universities and business.  His team adds value to manufacturing businesses by undertaking fundamental and translational research of the materials/processes behind new product commercialisation.  Drew was appointed to the South Australian Premier’s Research and Industry Council in 2014 which evolved into the South Australian Science Council in 2015, and in 2016 became an executive member of the EMCR Forum under the Australian Academy of Science.

Flemming K. Fink (1953) is Director for Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI) at Aarhus University. F.K. Fink came to Aarhus University 2008 and has been in charge of building CEI. From 1986 to 2008 he was with Aalborg University, Director of Studies for Electronics and IT from 1993 to 2005. He established CPD-Aalborg - in 2001, offering continuing education in all areas of engineering and technology.

Victoria Galán-Muros is a professional in the areas of university-business cooperation, innovation and entrepreneurship from different perspectives. With two undergraduate degrees from the Universidad de Granada in (Business Management and Market Research), she holds a master degree (MSc) in Social Research Methods from the London School of Economics and is currently finishing her PhD about University-Business Cooperation at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She has given 20+ speeches as keynote speaker on the topic in 14 countries as well as workshops in 13 countries. Victoria is currently lecturer at Münster University of Applied Sciences and coordinator of international research projects with Latin America at the Science-to-Business Marketing Research Centre. Victoria has teaching and research experience in nine universities and seven different countries whilst also has experience in the private sector, presently being Senior Consultant at apprimo, Director at University-Industry Innovation Network (UIIN) and Editor in Chief of University-Industry Innovation Magazine (UIIM).

Celso Garrido is a full-time professor in Economic Department of Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Campus Azcapotzalco in Mexico City. As an economist, he is an expert in finance, firms and development. It has published a number of articles and books on this subject in Mexico and abroad. Furthermore, he did research consultancy for the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribe (ECLAC), International Development Bank, UNCTAD, etc. He is currently the promotor and coordinator of a university network, RedUE ALCUE, created in 2013 and integrated by more than 30 Latin American universities to promote interaction with business.

Prior to his work on the Tonsley project, Jed had extensive experience in the delivery of major urban renewal projects for the South Australia Housing Trust and with Adelaide City Council’s residential growth program.

Artan Hoxha is one of the prominent economic experts in Albania. His occupations included the Minister of Trade and Economic Cooperation (1992-1993), Director and later President of the Institute of Contemporary Studies (ISB), member of the Board of Directors of the University of Tirana (February 2008 to May 2010). Throughout his career of over 20 years, Mr. Hoxha has contributed to the preparation of policies, strategies and most important laws related to economic and institutional reforms. Alan Hughes is Margaret Thatcher Professor of Enterprise Studies (Emeritus) at the Cambridge Judge Business School and a Fellow of Sidney Sussex College. Until 2014 he was the Director of the Centre for Business Research (CBR) at the University of Cambridge and of the UK Innovation Research Centre (UK~IRC), a joint venture between Cambridge and Imperial College London. Siep is a member of the Saxion Research Strategy Programme where he is the linking pin between institutional, regional and European policy initiatives. He holds a master’s degree in Sociology and a bachelors degree in agriculture. He is personally interested in the knowledge flows and innovation that results from collaboration between the university and business. Leading a small team, he supports international activities, fund raising and grant applications by the Saxion Schools and Research centres. Saxion projects fund research and innovation, facilitate international mobility and support tailor made training or capacity building. As international co-director, he leads the Vietnamese Ministry of Education & Training project “Profession Oriented Higher Education (POHE)” phase 2, implemented with NUFFIC funding.

Mihai Melonari is a research associate at the Science-to-Business Marketing Research Centre since October 2015. He graduated at the University of Applied Sciences Münster (B.A.) and at the University of Münster (M.Sc.) with a focus in Management and Finance. As a student he co-founded the Venture Club Münster, a student initiative with the mission to empower and inspire students in the field of entrepreneurship. His research focuses on Entrepreneurship.

J. Mark Nolan is a Director in the Office of Corporate Relations (OCR) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has extensive experience in sales/account/relationship management, business development, and entrepreneurship. Previous posts have included the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), Johns Hopkins University, LexisNexis, and specialty service firms providing consulting to Fortune 500 and government clients. He holds a BA from West Virginia Wesleyan College, an MS from Illinois, and is completing a PhD focused on Social Informatics from the Graduate School of Library and Information Science.

Balzhan Orazbayeva

Affiliated with the Science-to-Business Marketing Research Centre (S2BMRC) at Münster University of Applied Sciences (MUAS) in Germany, Balzhan Orazbayeva researches university-business collaboration and knowledge transfer processes. She is a researcher in the consulting project for the European Commission (DG Education and Culture), implementing the largest European study in the area of university-business collaboration. She is the capacity building designer and researcher for the Erasmus Plus project, aiming to establish a long lasting Knowledge Alliance between academy and industry and to produce an educational toolkit for trainers to raise strategic e-Leadership skills. Balzhan also coordinates industry projects executed by students as part of International Marketing and Strategic Marketing modules at MUAS. Her research interests include university-industry relationships, higher education, knowledge management and transfer, cross-cultural communication and intercultural competence. Balzhan is a doctoral candidate and focuses in her PhD on higher education in the context of university-business collaboration. She holds a Bachelor degree on International Relations in a field of political and social sciences from German-Kazakh University (DKU) in Almaty, Kazakhstan. In addition, she holds a Master degree on Integrative Project Management from International Institute (IHI) Zittau, a central academic unit of Dresden University of Technology (TUD) in Germany.

Manuel Perez Alonso

Manuel Perez Alonso (PhD in Molecular Genetics) is a researcher and entrepreneur in biomedicine. Professor of Genetics in University of Valencia, founded the Molecular Genetics Laboratory, where he has led +30 projects, participated in international DNA consortiums, published in high impact journals (i.e. Nature) and transferred 4 patents to industry.

Since 1998, he has been involved in the creation and management of eleven companies in the genetics field, like GENAGEN, GEM BioSOft, Valentia BioPharma, Genera Biotech, etc. From 2012, he is also the president of the BioRegion of the Valencian Community (BIOVAL) and president of the Spanish Association of Entrepreurial Scientists.

Carolin Plewa

A/Prof Carolin Plewa is Deputy Director of the ECIC, Associate Professor in Marketing and a research member of IPAS at The University of Adelaide. She specialises in the interaction and value co-creation across a myriad of organisations and individuals, with a particular emphasis on university-business collaboration, as well as service and social contexts. Her research on university-business engagement, in particular, has led to her appointment to the South Australian Science Council in 2015 and to the scientific board of the UIIN. Carolin has received a number of competitive research grants and has published her research in highly regarded international journals.

Dr. Marina Ranga is Senior Researcher at Stanford University’s Human Sciences and Technology Advanced Research (H-STAR) Institute, where she leads the Triple Helix Research Group. She is also Visiting Professor at University of Warsaw, School of Management. She holds a PhD and a MSc in Science and Technology Policy from SPRU, Sussex University and a BA/MSc in Chemical Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Bucharest. Dr. Ranga’s research interests include Triple Helix interactions and the entrepreneurial university, academic entrepreneurship, Triple Helix Systems and national/regional innovation systems, new technologies and innovation in higher education, as well as the gender dimension in innovation and entrepreneurship. In the Triple Helix research area, she is the originator of the ‘Triple Helix Systems’ concept that bridges key features of Triple Helix model with the innovation systems theory.

He is also key account manager for two of Siemens’ Strategic Partner Universities, TU Munich and KIT. Currently, he is co-editing a book on success-factors for university-industry cooperation, which is scheduled for publishing in 2017.

Irene Sheridan

Since 2007 Irene Sheridan has managed two collaborative projects aimed at engagement between higher education and enterprise (Education in Employment and Roadmap for Employment-Academic Partnership (REAP)). Both projects are funded by the Higher Education Authority under the Strategic Innovation Fund. In 2012, she completed a Doctorate on Change Management in Higher Education with the University of Middlesex. She is currently Head of the CIT Extended Campus, a unique facility established to stimulate and support all forms of engagement with enterprise, including customised learning development, research and innovation activity and enterprise support and development.

Hacer Tercanli is a recent graduate of an Erasmus Mundus Masters course, Research and Innovation in Higher Education (MARIHE), and since November 2016 a Project Officer at UIIN. Previously she has worked in public and private higher education institutions in Turkey and completed a Fulbright Master’s program in Applied Linguistics in the US. As part of her Erasmus Mundus Master Hacer studied in Austria, Finland, China and Germany. During her studies she has participated in HE development projects that involved mapping digital learning environments in Germany and facilitation of internationalization in Turkey. In addition, Hacer has also been involved in EU projects at the Science-to-Business Marketing Research Centre in Munster, Germany. Among her recent interests are university-industry cooperation and quality assurance in international joint degree programs.

Robert Tijssen holds the Chair of Science and Innovation Studies at Leiden University and research fellow at this university’s Campus The Hague. He is also professor at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. Robert’s interests are at the nexus between science, innovation and higher education. His current empirical studies focus on university-industry R&D interactions, globalization of science, and science indicators for national higher education policies. His advisory and consultancy work relates to monitoring and evaluation of scientific research performance at universities, with a special focus on measurement, quantitative indicators, institutional benchmarking, and international comparison.

A trained chemist, Liz graduated with a PhD in X-ray crystallography before joining the Research Council system. Prior to arriving at the University, her role was Director of Knowledge Exchange for the Science and Technology Facilities Council developing the organisation’s strategy for Knowledge Exchange and Economic Impact. She also led the development of the national science and innovation campuses at Harewell and Daresbury. On joining the University of Huddersfield in September 2009, Liz became Director of Research and Enterprise and is also enterprise strategies, identifying opportunities for development of research activity, strategic partnerships and collaborative R&D activity. Liz established and is the CEO of the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre, a new model for higher education working with industry and in recognition of this she received a Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion in summer 2013.

Peter van Hoorn co-founded Bio-Intermediair, a Biotech start-up in the early 1980’s. He subsequently held director positions in Business Development at Gist-brocades and DSM in Europe and the US. In 1995, Peter headed up North American business development for DSM Biologics and was President of Cambrex’s Biopharmaceutical division (2002-2008). Peter lectures at VU, regularly presents at conferences and is active in a variety of advisory roles, including member of the advisory board of Chemistry incubator ICLA (Matrix VI) at Amsterdam Science Park and the Green Metropole initiative in Amsterdam.

His research revolves around quantitative studies of science and technology. More specifically, the analysis of public private research interactions, including University-Industry interactions, researcher mobility and knowledge flows from the public to the private sector and vice versa. Also the study of science-technology linkages and the impact of scientific research in the technological realm, and the study of methods potentially able to capture societal impact of scientific research are part of his research interests.
