Institutional Transformation in Practice: Adelaide University’s Partnership Journey

03 November, 6:30am - 7:00am UTC | Fireside Chat
Partnerships

The formation of Adelaide University represents one of the most significant higher education mergers in recent years. Beyond bringing two institutions together, the merger has implications for how the new university works with industry, government and the wider ecosystem — from partner relationships and collaboration pathways to internal coordination and the shape of a unified external offer. In this Fireside Chat, Peter Stevens, Executive Director, Industry and Government at Adelaide University, will reflect on what the merger has meant for business development, external engagement and partnerships, and what it takes to maintain partner confidence, continuity and momentum while internal structures, teams and offers are still evolving.

About

This conversation will use the Adelaide University merger as a practical case to explore a broader challenge facing many institutions: how to maintain external confidence and strategic momentum during major internal change. Peter Stevens will share how teams have worked to reassure partners, maintain a clear and accessible “front door”, bring internal functions together and shape a more unified partner proposition. The discussion will unpack the real work of sustaining engagement through complexity — including what has worked, what remains challenging and what others can learn.

What you will learn

In this Fireside Chat, you will learn:

  1. How major institutional change can affect partner trust, continuity and engagement.
  2. What external partners need from an institution when its internal structures and offers are changing.
  3. How a clear “front door” and coordinated internal alignment can support external confidence.
  4. How disruption can create an opportunity to refresh the partner proposition while managing uncertainty and complexity.
