From uncertainty to impact: The entrepreneurial mindset

From uncertainty to impact the entrepreneurial mindset

How can universities prepare people to act when the path ahead is unclear? As artificial intelligence, automation and wider societal change reshape work and decision-making, individuals need more than knowledge and technical expertise. They also need the ability to recognise opportunities, work creatively with available resources, collaborate effectively and act without waiting for certainty.

This brief presents the entrepreneurial mindset as a learnable way of thinking and acting, relevant far beyond startups and venture creation. Drawing on EntreComp, effectuation theory and research on entrepreneurial learning, it identifies six interconnected dimensions: Recognising and creating opportunities, being resourceful, moving beyond ideas, taking responsibility, mobilising others and dealing with uncertainty.

The brief argues that these capabilities can be strengthened through reflection, experimentation and experience. It offers practical implications for individuals, educators and university leaders seeking to embed entrepreneurial thinking across disciplines and create environments in which people are equipped to turn uncertainty into meaningful impact.
